The annual Labour party conference means it is a big week for this man after what is arguably his biggest achievement of the last year, survival.
I argue he owes this achievement to his boldness in publicly attacking the power and influence of Rupert Murdoch’s News International ahead of the Prime Minister and his deputy who are compromised by their association with the Murdoch company and its neverending ‘phonehacked’ chamber of horrors.

In hard times it’s good to know you can rely on a Chancellor of the Exchequer to entertain the nation. Stories about incumbent George Osborne reminded me of his Conservative predecessor Norman Lamont who famously let a flat to Lindi St Clair aka Miss Whiplash back in the mid 1990s.
